| The welding industry is rated number one among all industries for the highest number of eye injuries, with over 365,000 annually. Common among negative effects is Photokeratitis, also known as "welder's flash". Although torch soldering, brazing and cutting may not be as intense as your extreme welding jobs, there is still concern for serious eye injury. But wearing proper eyewear can significantly reduce the chances of such injuries.
OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.252 lists minimum shade requirements for a variety of welding operations. Additionally, ANSI Z87.1-2003 addresses safety recommendations for protective eyewear. |
